ANANTA, the new open-world urban RPG
developed by NetEase, confirmed that it will not feature a gacha
system to unlock characters. The news comes as a surprise within the current
panorama of anime aesthetic games, where the gacha model has become the norm.
Instead, players will be able to get all the characters for free as they
progress through the story.
A
success before its launch
Although it
does not yet have an official release date, ANANTA already has
more than 11 million pre-registrations globally. Its proposal mixes
elements of Grand Theft Auto and Spider-Man,
offering a dynamic exploration and combat system in an urban environment with a
marked anime style. This combination has generated great expectation among
players.
A model
without gacha
According
to Japanese media outlet Famitsu, the title will not use character
gacha, which means that they will all be obtainable for free.
Monetization will be focused on cosmetics, such as outfits,
vehicles, and decoration for the player's house. In this way, the aim is to
ensure that the gaming experience is equitable for everyone, without payment
advantages.
A change
in trend in the sector
NetEase's
decision follows a line that has also been adopted by other developers, such as
those responsible for Duet Night Abyss, who months before its
launch eliminated the character gacha as an economic pillar. Both cases point
to a shift in mindset in big-budget free-to-play games, prioritizing long-term
fun over the pressure to spend money.
