Netflix he presented his new original animation project titled Cosmic Princess Kaguya, a film that combines the director's visual style Shingo Yamashita with the music of renowned producers Vocaloid. The film will arrive in the platform's catalog on January 22, 2026 and represents the first feature film completely directed by Yamashita.
Production is carried out by two studios: Studio Chromate, founded by Yamashita himself, and Colorful Studio, known for films such as Penguin Highway. At the moment, there has been no mention of a theatrical release, so everything points to an exclusive streaming release.
A team that mixes high-level music and animation
The project brings together prominent creators of the digital music scene. Among the artists involved are ryu (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mp, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra and yuigot, who contribute their talent to create an original soundtrack inspired by the universe Vocaloid. The proposal seeks to merge modern aesthetics and Japanese tradition in a unique audiovisual concept.
A modern reinterpretation of the Kaguya myth
Just as its title suggests, the film will be one contemporary reinterpretation of the legend of Princess Kaguya, a classic story that has also been adapted by other studies such as Studio Ghibli. In this version, the focus is oriented towards an environment spatial and technological, where the themes of identity, destiny and digital art take center stage under the creative vision of Yamashita, recognized for his work in the openings of Urusei Yatsura and the jujutsu Kaisen first season.
