The saying "the customer is always right" has been fulfilled in a fulminant way in the world of gacha games. Popular mobile game Blue Archive has been forced to abruptly cancel a marketing campaign featuring Western influencers after receiving a massive wave of criticism from its own community.
The original plan was simple: sponsor four major content creators (Gigguk, Zentreya, CDawgVA, and Ironmouse) to conduct live streams where viewers could earn rewards (Drops) on Twitch. However, just 7 hours after the announcement in X, and after more than 700 mostly negative comments, the official account announced the total cancellation of the event, apologizing and promising to review its internal processes.
Why so much hatred towards CDawgVA?
The epicenter of the controversy was the inclusion of CDawgVA. Fans pointed out the hypocrisy of the choice, recalling that the streamer has openly criticized gacha games and the "loli" aesthetic (child-like characters) in the past, two fundamental pillars of Blue Archive's identity. The community felt that inviting someone who actively despises the genre would only serve to get the game mocked or misinterpreted in front of a mass audience.
"Support those who really play"
In addition to the rejection of CDawgVA, the players criticized that figures such as Ironmouse or Zentreya have no history playing the title. Instead, fans demanded that these kinds of opportunities be given to creators who truly love and consume the game, specifically citing the Vtubers of the Phase Connect agency, who are known for being dedicated players and never receive these types of official sponsorships.
