The most
beloved old man of the sword will not be able to retire so easily. As soon as
the last episode of its second installment finished airing, the production of From
Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni
Naru) dropped the bombshell without making anyone wait: the series has
already officially confirmed its third season.
The news
was accompanied by a new promotional image and a nice video message recorded by
renowned voice actor Hiroaki Hirata, who lends his voice to beloved
protagonist Beryl Gardenant. During the video, the seiyuu did not hide his
enthusiasm to continue playing the humble instructor and even joked that for
the new episodes he would ask all the characters to do internal monologues to
rest their throats a little.
The
adaptation has maintained a fairly steady pace since its debut in April 2025.
Its second season, broadcast over twelve episodes during the summer season of
2026, was in charge of the Passione and Hayabusa Film studios.
The direction was under the command of Akio Kazumi, while Kunihiko
Okada was in charge of writing the scripts. The character design and main
animation direction were by Satsuki Hayasaka, accompanied by the musical
composition of Yasuharu Takanashi, a team that has managed to maintain
the balance between sword combat and situational comedy.

born as a web novel written by Shigeru Sagazaki on the site Shosetsuka
ni Naro in November 2020, the work made the leap to printed paper under the
Square Enix publishing house with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima,
becoming a resounding success among fantasy lovers with mature protagonists.
The story
follows in the footsteps of Beryl Gardenant, a middle-aged man who considers
himself a simple old peasant with no great talent, dedicated to teaching
fencing in a small rural dojo. Although in his youth he dreamed of being a
master of the sword, he feels that those days are long gone. His whole world is
turned upside down when one of his former students, turned into a prestigious
knight, visits him to announce that he has been appointed special instructor of
the knights of the imperial order. Upon arriving in the capital, Beryl is
reunited with several of his old students, from elite mages to top-ranked
adventurers, who insist on continuing to learn from him despite his abilities
surpassing anyone's.
