Mercedes and the Waning Moon: Being a vampire doesn't save you from poverty either

Being reincarnated as a vampire and being born into a noble family should be enough to have your life figured out, right? Well, it seems that Mercedes Grunewald was not so lucky. The anime adaptation of Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat has unveiled its second promotional trailer, accompanied by the addition of four new voice actors. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on Japanese television.

The trailer shows new combat scenes and allows you to hear for the first time several of the characters that will accompany Mercedes during her adventures. Among the additions are Kenta Miyake, known for playing All Might in My Hero Academia, and Junichi Suwabe, the voice of Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen. So, at least as far as voices go, this little vampire will be in pretty good company.

A vampire who will have to earn a living since she was a child

The story follows Mercedes Grunewald, a woman who died without having found a true purpose in her life and who ended up reincarnated as a little vampire in an aristocratic family. The problem is that her father has other priorities and, sooner or later, he will choose an heir who will not be her. To make matters worse, his mother is an outcast concubine, the family lacks resources, and they don't have too many people who can help them.

Faced with such a panorama, Mercedes finds a rather peculiar solution: explore dungeons to earn money. After all, anyone in this world can become an explorer, even a girl who is barely old enough to attend kindergarten. Taking advantage of the skills she possesses as a vampire, she will begin training from a very young age to provide for her family and ensure that her second life does not end up being as disappointing as the first.

However, becoming an explorer won't be as straightforward as you'd hoped. The dungeons hide dangerous monsters and mysteries that Mercedes will have to uncover while increasing her skills. The new trailer also introduces some of his future companions, including Benkei, a six-armed creature, and Kuro, a wolf-like monster who will end up becoming one of his allies.

Anime Adds Voices From Jujutsu Kaisen And KonoSuba

As for the voice cast, it was confirmed that Anna Nagase will play Mercedes Grunewald, an actress known for giving life to Ushio Kofune in Summer Time Rendering. The four additional members announced are as follows:

  • Benkei: Kenta Miyake, known for playing All Might in My Hero Academia.
  • Kuro: Ryunosuke Watanuki, who previously voiced Okuhito Iemon in Blue Lock.
  • Florian: Junichi Suwabe, recognized for playing Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Ryudia Grunewald: Ai Kayano, the voice of Darkness in KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!.

Among the new characters also stands out Florian, a worker of the scouts' guild who will show a particular interest in Mercedes' activities. In fact, Junichi Suwabe himself left up in the air whether his character will really be an ally or if he will end up betraying the protagonist, so we will have to be attentive to his true intentions.

Regarding the production team, Kunihisa Sugishima will be in charge of directing at Teddy Studios, while Jun Kumagai will be in charge of the composition of the series. Character designs will be handled by Nami Shoyama, with R.O.N and Shuhei Mutsuki responsible for the music.

It should be remembered that the original story, written by Firehead, began to be published on the Shosetsuka ni Narou portal in 2018, before receiving an edition as a light novel under the TO Books label, with illustrations by KeG, in 2021. That same year he also began a manga adaptation illustrated by Pochi Edoya. The series is known in Japan under the title Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes.
