However, what captured the fans' attention was a text written in the background on the author's computer screen that says “や は り 俺 の 青春 ラ ブ コ メ は ま ち が っ て い る 。- 新 -” (lit. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru - Shin-). However, as the main story has already been finalized and given the “clues” left by the author, they further specify their theory, stating that it could be an alternative ending based on Iroha Isshiki.
For his part, Watari began publishing the Oregairu light novels with illustrations by Ponkan8 in 2011. The series ended with the fourteenth volume, published in November 2019.
The play inspired an anime adaptation released in April 2013, followed by a second season released in April 2015. A third season was slated to premiere this season, but was delayed by the effects of the Coronavirus in Japan.
Synopsis of Oregairu
The romantic comedy revolves around a rather antisocial high school student named Hachiman Hikigaya, who has a distorted view of life, apart from having no friends, much less a girlfriend. When he sees his classmates cheerfully talking about their teenage lives, he mutters that they are all a bunch of liars. When asked about his dreams for the future, his answer is "don't work." A teacher, however, manages to enroll Hachiman in the volunteer club, to which it turns out that the prettiest girl in the institute, Yukino Yukinoshita, is also enrolled.
