This article contains spoilers for the Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta (Hamefura) series, if you are not up to date with the series we recommend not reading it.
Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta (also abbreviated as Hamefura) focuses on a series of complicated romances, and episode # 7 recently aired could have defined who the person who really loves Katarina the most. In this episode, Sophia Ascart has a dream full of memories of her past life. In this dream, she was a quiet and shy girl named Sasaki Atsuko, who had no friends until one day on her way home, she was accidentally hit by a girl who fell from a tree. Although this girl's name is not revealed, it is clear that she is Katarina Claes in her previous life.
The bond between Katarina and Sophia is reinforced because they met in the same way within the world of "Fortune Lover", the otome game in which the story unfolds. Katarina climbed a tree to escape a dog that was chasing her during a party, and jumps off it to chase away the people who were harassing Sophia. After discovering that they had the same passion for romance novels, the two became inseparable.
In both versions of their lives, Sophia's life changed for the better after meeting Katarina and becoming her friend. Her world opens up and her life becomes fun due to Katarina's characteristic clumsiness. As a by-product of being friends with someone as extroverted as she is, Sophia begins to feel less alone. Having a person to love and understand them offers you a sense of belonging that you thought you had lost. Because of this, before their eyes, nothing is more important than their friendship.
The latter becomes evident when at the end of her dream, Sasaki (Sophia) mentions: "If I could be reborn, I would like to be your friend again", recognizing that their friendship is an unbreakable bond and choosing to follow Katarina's soul even in the next life. The decision she makes seems to have linked her spirit with that of her friend, turning them into soul mates, although at this point in the animated series the true meaning of this is still unknown.
The concept of "soul mates" can come in many different forms. Although the bond between two people who have met in a past life is usually romantic, it doesn't always have to be that way. Sophia is clearly attached to Katarina, but defends her brother Nicol Ascart's romantic feelings towards her friend, rather than monopolizing her. This puts a stop to theories that romantically link Sophia and Katarina.
Regardless of whether your future relationship evolves into a romantic one, it is undeniable that your bond has transcended a lifetime. Sophia's determination to follow the girl who changed her life and gave her joy towards a new life, anywhere, becomes a moving detail and presents a new vision in the isekai genre, where the reactions of women are rarely observed. people related to those who are transported to a new world.
