Meet the man who designed the Kimetsu no Yaiba calligraphy

The Kimetsu no Yaiba anime makes use of different typefaces inspired by traditional Japanese calligraphy at the time it introduces the Pillars. In fact, the fonts "Kagerou", Touryuu "and" Kokuryuu "were designed by 84-year-old calligrapher Kouki Sakaguchi.

Sakaguchi works for the font production and distribution company Shouwa Shoutai, established in Kagoshima city. The old man commented that it was his 31-year-old grandson who indicated that his designs were being used in the Kimetsu no Yaiba anime. According to the Japanese site "Maido na News", Sakaguchi mentioned that he was very happy when he received the news. "When he found out that the letters he designed had become so popular, he was dumbfounded," said a source close to Sakaguchi.

The calligrapher now spends his days eating, watching television, and designing characters. Sakaguchi still continues to draw more than 100 characters a day in the quest to create new typefaces, and is reluctant to continue this until at least age 90.

Shouwa Shoutai company fonts are also used in a wide variety of food and beverage merchandise, such as onigiri and sake, as well as in video games such as Dynasty Warriors 6 and the Japanese television drama Rikuou.
