For the first time since the inception of the Best Manga category at the prestigious Harvey Awards , a manga series has swept away its competition and won the award for the second year in a row. Tatsuki Fujimoto 's Chainsaw Man , published by Viz Media in English and translated by Amanda Haley , won the Best Manga Award at the New York Comic-Con presentation.

Chainsaw Man went up against manga space titans like Blue Lock , Nekogurashi no Gamer-san ( Cat + Gamer ), Akai Hana ( Red Flowers ), SPY x FAMILY , and Chi no Wadachi ( Blood on the Tracks ). In fact, the latter, written by Shuzo Oshimi , took home the award in the fan-voted Unofficial category at the event.

The Harvey Awards are awarded for achievement in the world of comics. Named for screenwriter and artist Harvey Kurtzman , the awards were founded by Gary Groth in 1988, president of publisher Fantagraphics , to be the successor to the Kirby Awards , which ceased in 1987.

On the other hand, Fujimoto began publishing the Chainsaw Man manga in Shueisha 's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2018, ending the first part in December 2020. The second part of the work moved to the Shonen Jump Plus digital service. , where it has been published since July 2022. The manga will have an anime series adaptation produced by MAPPA studios and whose premiere is scheduled for October 11 in Japan.

Synopsis for Chainsaw Man

The story takes place in a world where Demons threaten the peace of humans, making them targets to be eliminated. Denji is a young and depressed man who has sold several of his organs and works as a lumberjack and demon hunter to pay off his late father's debt. Denji owns a dog (who is also a demon) named Pochita, who has chainsaws and which he uses to do his work.

This is explained because humans can make contracts with demons. After returning home from a job, Denji is called in by a Yakuza to infiltrate a building and assassinate another demon. However, the plan was a trap to kill him as part of a Yakuza contract with the demon, gaining them more power. But Pochita comes to Denji's aid and bonds with him, becoming a half-man, half-demon and acquiring Pochita's chainsaws.
