The prestigious Komaba Institute, attached to the University
of Tsukuba in the Ibaraki Prefecture, in Japan, recently became a trend after
starring in a controversy that caught the attention of a certain social group
on social networks. It
turns out that the institute decided to prepare a beauty contest among its male
students, that is, a crossdressing contest (or “trapitos”, as
they are usually called on social networks).
Titled “ Miss Chikukoma 2023 ”, the event immediately became a trend after an official Twitter account was created and photographs of the participating students began to be shared. Why don't we take a look at them before seeing why there was a controversy?
The event was going from strength to strength and was
scheduled to take place this November 5 at the facilities of the men's
institute (yes, the school is only for men) , but the updates with
photographs of the participants began to attract the attention of that group
social worker who likes to complain about everything, attracting comments like
the following:
- « I don't know how long they will continue doing this, and I would like them to realize the perpetrator nature of men imitating women in a beauty pageant, even though women are criticized for doing so. For a school as big as Komaba Institute to do this, no matter how highly educated you are, you can't help but trample on women. ».
- « At that level they are told that they are “pretty.” How nice it is to be a man. If they were real women, they wouldn't stop calling them "ugly." And even from a distance, it's easy to see that they are men. It just goes to show how selfish the standard of self-identified men is when it comes to what they call passability .'
- « It is extremely offensive. They pose as women according to the male definition of “woman” and say, “What do you think? We look feminine, right? Aren’t we pretty?” They make fun of us too much. If this were a contest where white people dressed up as black people, there would be a big problem, but why do you think it's okay to dress up as a woman? It's not funny, damn it .
- « Men are lenient with crossdressers, but harsh with the women of the world. They call transvestites cute and adorable, but they call women ugly in passing and make up classifications of faces. This level of quality is fine because it's a school festival, but if they were all women, they would be too sweet. I think they have pretty faces .
- « It's disgusting. It would have been funny a long time ago, but now we are in a critical situation for women, who will probably have their family book changed just for being women without gender identity. It is also not funny when they are minors and our identity is shaky and we are wrongly educated that “if your gender identity is different from that of your body, you should change your body.” Don't dress up as a woman without realizing it! ».
- « This beauty pageant: A pageant that evaluates women for having long hair, wearing skirts and soft designer clothes, or for expressing “femininity” or gender bias? Isn't it a very discriminatory contest? ».
- « I have come to think that when a man imitates the gestures and clothes of a woman, he is actually mocking her, and what difference is there between that and imitating a black man? I think we should get more angry about this kind of stuff. Plus, if it were a real photo from a beauty pageant, I'd be beaten to death. That's how they are with women .
The curious criticisms did not go unnoticed and led the school administration to suspend the contest and establish its Twitter account as “private”, with the aim of protecting the identity of the students. But this was not enough: « How will the institute respond? Will he apologize to the women he offended with his dynamic? As a prestigious school, how will you respond? », someone commented.
And of course, there was no shortage of comments from the
community on social networks:
- « You walk into a high school boys' club, where they're playing dress-up and casually dressing up as girls, and you start ranting and demanding apologies. That's bullshit. These people are not feminists .
- « I see. Are feminists repulsed by a man dressing as a woman, that is, a trans woman? ».
- " It's not that they are violating women's space, but if you hit them for it, you are a real racist ."
- « The more young people do things like this, the more they dislike feminists. Why don't they wear what they want? Skirts and jeans used to be men's clothing .
- « I am not a man, I am a trans woman ».
- « Why are women always so irritable? ».
- « Surely you think that women are ugly and men are handsome, of course you think the opposite. What's wrong with saying they're monkeys in women's clothes? ».
- " There is nothing worse than an old woman jealous of the young ."
