On the official site for the anime adaptation of the manga
written and illustrated by Ryouko Kui, Dungeon Meshi (Delicious
in Dungeon), the second promotional video for the project was revealed. The
video confirms that the premiere is scheduled for January 4, 2024 in
Japan, and shows a fragment of the closing theme titled “.Ryokuoushoku
Shakai (緑黄色社会)” and performed by Party!!
On the other hand, the Netflix platform will be in charge of
its global distribution. Although no mention has been made of it, it is quite
likely that it is a simulcast (that is, that the new episodes
will be broadcast on the same day than its broadcast in Japan). On the
other hand, the series is confirmed to have a duration of two continuous
quarters (six months of broadcast).
Ryouko Kui began publishing the manga in the
publisher's Harta magazine Kadokawa in February
2014. The manga series managed to enter the 2016 male readers' recommendation
list, Kono Manga ga Sugoi !, and also the thirteenth position in
the ranking of recommendations of the year 2015 of the magazine Da
Vinci in Japan .
Dungeon Meshi Synopsis
After the Golden Kingdom is driven underground by a mad
wizard, its king emerges, promising all his treasure to whoever defeats the
wizard, before crumbling. The guilds are encouraged by this promise and traverse
the labyrinthine dungeon in search of the wizard. Laios, the leader of one of
these guilds, encounters a dragon that annihilates his group and devours his
sister Falin. Despite having lost all of his supplies and belongings, Laios,
along with Marcille, an elven healer, and Chilchuck, a halfling thief,
immediately re-enter the dungeon, determined to save Falin.
As time is of the essence, Laios suggests the taboo of
eating dungeon monsters as a means of gathering supplies. As they prepare their
first meal in the dungeon, a dwarf named Senshi stops them. A monster cooking
enthusiast, he helps them prepare their monster ingredients for safe
consumption. After learning of Laios' circumstances, Senshi expresses his
desire to cook a dragon and joins his guild, thus beginning their foray
together into the dungeon full of food.
