Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister! is a victim of censorship

Pixiv is a platform of Japanese origin where artists can share their art, either publicly or through a subscription scheme. From the latter, Pixiv FANBOX also emerges , which can be defined as the “Patreon of Illustrators” , since users can subscribe to an artist to have access to their content, paying a monthly fee established by the illustrator himself.

Well, as nice as it sounds, it turns out that the platform has fallen prey to a series of cancellations and censorship of its content , highlighting the fact that VISA and MasterCard withdrew their financial services from the site as a measure of pressure. to the type of content that is published on Pixiv (which includes everything you can imagine, yes, EVERYTHING).

It turns out that these financial services companies (bank cards) decided to withdraw from Pixiv because they did not want to be related to the type of content that is published there, dealing a serious blow to the art industry in Japan. Shortly after, American Express also pulled its Pixiv and Pixiv FANBOX services, meaning that it is currently nearly impossible for fans around the world to support their favorite artists in Japan.

As a result of all this, Pixiv has been removing R-18 illustrations and constantly banning accounts of artists exclusively dedicated to this type of content. According to user research, around 10 percent of adult content has disappeared from the site. And why are we talking about this again? Well, it turns out that Nekotoufu , the author of “ Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister! ( Oniichan wa Oshimai! )” was the most recent victim of this.

Although the manga is published through the Monthly Comic Rex service of the Ichijinsha publisher , the author shares the chapters of “Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister!” in advance through his Pixiv FANBOX account , charging his fans a monthly subscription.

The problem came when he published the most recent chapter, “Chapter 87”, on Pixiv FANBOX, which did not last long since it reported that the site's moderation team canceled the publication of the chapter and demanded that the author make the “pertinent modifications.” :

  • « Currently, the pre-release on FANBOX has received a moderation review and is no longer available. In my opinion there is nothing that requires revision, but I will add some tiles and try to publish it later », wrote the author.

This constant control over content on Pixiv has caught the attention of Internet users , and although “Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister!” It's also not the “healthiest” manga out there, the fact that it received a call for attention makes it clear that not even registered manga authors can be safe.

  • « How long have you been publishing the Onimai manga on Pixiv? I think it is the first time they have imposed a sanction on him, and he has published more spicy chapters in the past .

  • « This is an obstruction of business, when will Pixiv be sanctioned for going against freedom of expression? ».

  • « Pixiv is already in decline, there is nothing we can do .»

  • If the manga is being sanctioned like this, I don't want to see what they could do to the anime adaptation ."

  • With the pressure that credit card companies are putting on them, they practically have complete control of what can be published on Pixiv ."

  • « Pixiv is making these kinds of stupid moves while still allowing “AI artists” to make money on their platform . »

  • « We will have to return to the caveman era and doujinshi will once again depend on physical sales at conventions, wasn't the Internet a free place? ».

  • « Someone needs to create a site to replace Pixiv as soon as possible, this is like what happened with YouTube a few years ago, they no longer care about their users .»
