The Netflix platform
revealed the first details for the next original anime based on the “ Terminator ”
franchise, produced by Skydance Animation in collaboration with Production
IG studios . This new series will be titled “ Terminator Zero ”
and is scheduled to premiere on August 29 in the platform's global catalog.
The press release also revealed that this series will have a total of eight episodes and that, although it is part of the “Terminator” universe, it focuses on completely new characters. It should be noted that Netflix announced the series in 2021, but it was not until now that the first official details were revealed.
The
rights holders of the “Terminator” franchise had planned a series of shorts
created by prominent European and Japanese “authors” in 2008, but the project
did not premiere as planned. “Termination” would have focused on Judgment Day, the
crucial day in the multiple plots of the “Terminator” franchise in which the
Skynet defense system launches nuclear weapons that would destroy much of
humanity. The iconic T-800 robot is a time-traveling Skynet weapon, and has
been both the antagonist and protagonist in the various "Terminator"
projects since the first film in 1984.
In fact,
the T-800 made an official and authorized cameo in the anime series “Doraemon”
in June 2009. The
main character of the anime Doraemon is a time-traveling robot cat from the
future, and the “dream showdown” » was described in the Japanese press as a
confrontation between American and Japanese robots.
