Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! ends without announcing a sequel

Today the final episode of the anime adaptation of “ Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! “ aired, however, despite the constant popularity of the project both inside and outside Japan, not only because of the spectacular animation by A-1 Pictures studios but also because of the narrative quality and personality of each of the characters, no announcement of a sequel was made towards the end.

Interestingly, fans weren't entirely surprised by the absence of this announcement, especially since the final episode featured a completely original story, something that's rarely seen in the industry. Original episodes usually appear halfway through the broadcast to serve as an "intermission" and separate two story arcs, but the fact that it was a final episode already gave us a bad clue.

Still, it's clear that the anime adaptation has been wildly popular , a fact that's reflected not only in the volume of Blu-ray sales and pre-orders, so it'll surely be a matter of time before the long-awaited sequel arrives.

For her part, Takibi Amamori began publishing the light novels in July 2021 through Shogakukan 's Gagaga Bunko publishing label , with illustrations by Muru Imigi . The novel won the fifteenth edition of the Shogakukan Light Novel Award in 2020. A manga adaptation by Itachi has been published through the same publisher's Manga ONE service since April 2022.

Synopsis of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!

Despite not understanding much about fleeting teenage romances, first-year high school student Kazuhiko Nukumizu keeps wondering how he would react if his life turned into a love story. Regardless, as a self-proclaimed “background character,” Nukumizu is content to continue his introverted life with a meaningless social life. However, he suddenly finds himself too close to the spotlight when he witnesses his popular classmate Anna Yanami being rejected by her childhood friend in the middle of a family restaurant.

While Nukumizu wishes to forget what he's seen and move on, Anna ends up forcibly confiding in Nukumizu, lamenting her status as a childhood friend doomed to have her beloved stolen from her. Being drawn into Anna's situation, Nukumizu soon finds himself embroiled in the romantic drama of two other girls: Lemon Yakishio, an outgoing member of the track and field club, and Chika Komari, a shy member of the literature club. Nukumizu steps out of his comfort zone and becomes an important character in the lives of too many loser heroines.
