The literary and now television phenomenon “ Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! ” has reached a new milestone in its rising popularity by dominating the prestigious Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2025 list. The work, written by author Takibi Amamori and illustrated by renowned artist Imigimuru, took the top spot in the Light Novel category, reaffirming its position as one of the most beloved and relevant franchises of the moment.

In addition to the series' recognition as best light novel, Makeine also shined in individual categories:

  • Imigimuru , whose artistic style has been a key part of the series' visual identity, took first place for Best Artist.

  • Kazuhiko Nukumizu , the introverted yet endearing protagonist, was voted Best Male Character , beating out characters from other prominent franchises.

  • In the Best Female Character category , Anna Yanami , the popular classmate who embodies the “always losing” heroine, took second place, behind only The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten’s Mahiru Shiina. This win marks Shiina’s fourth consecutive year at the top, cementing her legacy as a crowd favorite.

Anna Yanami’s second place has been the subject of comment among fans, who consider it a perfect reflection of the series’ main theme: the constant struggle of “loser heroines.” In Makeine, Anna is the clearest example of this theme, being a “childhood friend destined to lose,” which adds a layer of irony to the recognition.

The anime adaptation of Makeine, which aired during Summer 2024, was a key catalyst for the franchise's growing popularity. Produced by studio A-1 Pictures, the series stood out for its high-quality animation and faithful representation of the characters and narrative. However, despite the resounding success, fans are still eagerly awaiting the announcement of a second season, which has not been confirmed to date.

As readers and viewers eagerly await new installments, both on paper and on screen, this franchise continues to establish itself as a work that not only tells stories about losing, but, ironically, knows how to win in the hearts of its audience.
