In news that has thrilled fans of classic anime, a new
adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s legendary work, “ Cat’s Eye ,” has been
announced. The series will premiere in 2025 as a Disney Plus exclusive. The
announcement took place during the “Disney Content Showcase 2024” event held at
Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands.
Originally serialized from 1981 to 1984 in Shueisha’s
Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Cat’s Eye follows sisters Hitomi, Rui, and Ai, who
own a café that hides their identity as the cunning thieves known as Cat’s Eye.
Blending action, romantic comedy, and mystery, the series
won over readers and viewers alike, becoming a cultural phenomenon in Japan and
beyond. In 2022, to mark the 40th anniversary of its release, an art exhibition
was held that showcased fans’ unwavering affection for the work.
Series creator Tsukasa Hojo expressed his surprise and
gratitude at this new opportunity to bring his creation to the screen. “ This
was my debut work as an author, and while I acknowledge many imperfections, the
fact that it still receives interest, even from overseas, makes me feel deeply
grateful ,” he commented. Hojo also shared his excitement about
how new generations might perceive this revamped classic.
The announcement also saw the release of a visual that
features the three sisters posing under a mystical moonlight, capturing the
stylized and elegant essence of the original work. Additionally, it was
confirmed that Ado, the acclaimed Japanese singer, will perform a new version
of Anri’s iconic track “CAT’S EYE,” reimagined with arrangements by Yuki
Hayashi.

history of manga and anime, but also promises to bring its legacy to a global

Cat's Eye Synopsis
The three Kisugi sisters - Rui, Hitomi and Ai - run a
small café called Cat's Eye by day. In order to discover the whereabouts of
their missing artist father, Michael Heintz, Hitomi and her sisters rob art
galleries as the clever and mysterious thief Cat's Eye in the hope that his
works might provide clues to his disappearance. Crucially, Hitomi is in a
relationship with Toshi, a police inspector who has sworn to catch Cat's Eye
and who, of course, has no idea about Hitomi's double life.
