Dragon Ball Daima has ended

The final episode of " Dragon Ball Daima " aired on February 28th via Fuji TV in Japan and what a special moment it was for fans.  Not only did it mark the end of this new adventure for Son Goku and company, but it also coincided with the death anniversary of Akira Toriyama, who left this world on March 1st, 2024.

On social media, fans were quick to share their emotions about the show. From “ I don’t know how to feel about this ,” to “ An ending that surpasses everything before, Toriyama-sensei, thank you for everything ,” messages reflected both sadness and gratitude. Many also highlighted the series’ symbolic ending: “ No one dies, no one suffers… very Toriyama-esque .”

In fact, "Dragon Ball Daima" was a special project because Akira Toriyama was involved in everything: story, character design, and even details like vehicles and monsters. The series premiered in October 2024 and surprised everyone from the start, as it was the first "Dragon Ball" story to air in a late-night time slot in Japan, in addition to changing the voices of twelve main characters.

What was most shocking was that the series finale coincided with the date of Akira Toriyama's passing , leading fans to wonder if this was a coincidence or entirely planned as a tribute. Comments like " If it wasn't a coincidence, the animation team's respect for Toriyama-sensei is enormous " or " It's like he closed his story with this " reflect this emotional moment.

From its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984 to its conclusion in 1995, "Dragon Ball" became a worldwide phenomenon. With more than 260 million copies in circulation, several animated series, video games and films, Akira Toriyama's work is still relevant. In recent years, with the " Dragon Ball Super " series and the film " Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (2022) ", it has become clear that the story of Son Goku still has tremendous potential to engage new generations.

Now, with the closure of "Dragon Ball Daima," many fans feel that this is the true farewell to the so-called "Toriyama Era" in "Dragon Ball." But it evidently does not represent the death of the franchise, and perhaps in the future new projects will be announced now directed by Toyotarou, who now writes the "Dragon Ball Super" manga.

Synopsis of Dragon Ball Daima

After saving the world from the destructive power of Majin Buu, Son Goku and his allies look forward to a well-deserved rest. However, unbeknownst to them, their battle has been recorded and observed by Gomah, an evil being who has assumed the title of King of the Demon Realm, filling the void left by the death of the previous ruler, Dabura. At Gomah’s side is Degesu, the younger brother of Higashi no Kaioshin, a being who rules the universe. Jealous of his brother’s power, Degesu works alongside Gomah to steal the Dragon Balls from Earth and preemptively subdue any potential future enemies.

Calling upon the power of the legendary dragon Shenron, Gomah wishes for Goku and his friends to become children, intending to steal from them the limitless power that defeated Buu. With Earth’s greatest warriors shrunken, Gomah kidnaps Dende, the planet’s reigning god. But Goku refuses to be defeated by his new body and strives to master his younger form in order to fight with the same prowess as his adult self. Accompanied by Kaioshin and Glorio – a mysterious but seemingly rebellious demon – Goku pursues Gomah to the Demon Realm to rescue Dende and return his friends to their natural ages.
