A rather
peculiar idea has taken social media in Japan by surprise. Posted on a popular
blog where anyone can post their thoughts anonymously, the message
suggests that if women in Japan were allowed to carry swords,
gender issues would be solved instantly.

In a post
that went viral in the blink of an eye, it was stated: “ Harassment?
One-hit cut! Photo theft? One-hit cut! Workplace harassment? One-hit cut! ”
They definitely paint it as the ultimate solution to all ills. The idea
is that by giving only women the ability to defend themselves with swords, men
would stop treating them with contempt as they would not dare to do
anything knowing that they are in danger of being hurt.
" If you take control away from men, there are no more problems ," they said. But of course, it's not all that simple. Even if women can carry swords, they would not be able to compete physically with a man in a long fight. The idea, while interesting, would be very difficult to implement. Laws in Japan classify swords and other bladed weapons as prohibited, so they can only be used by the armed forces or those with special permission for certain purposes
Furthermore,
proper sword handling requires practice and training. Without both, women themselves
would risk their own safety and that of others simply by wielding it. But
what did the Japanese think of such an interesting idea? Let's
take a look:
- " If they take it
away from you, it's over ."
- « Better
karate ».
- « Swords are quite
heavy, can you really carry one? »
- " Doesn't it take
quite a bit of training to be able to cut in one fell swoop? "
- " I think even if
you have a sword, you would lose to someone with bare knuckles ."
- " Men always carry
swords, don't they? "
- « I want a gun too, we
live in a world where you can't say what you think without a gun pointed
at you ».
- " They take it
away from you easily and they just cut you ."
- « Equity with a sword?
Tightening up your tight pants! »
- " I now understand
that it is impossible for women to manage a state of law ."
- « She says that men are
physically stronger, so they accept it. Don't you
understand? »
- " If you hurt
someone, you get arrested for battery or murder ."
- « But even if he is a
criminal, you would not bear the burden of having killed someone ."
- « Men should also carry
swords. The reason for collecting swords in the past was because the
leaders were afraid. Imagine if all those protesting at the Ministry of
Finance were carrying swords, that would generate pressure on its own. .»
- " As soon as they
try to draw their sword, I'd punch them and strangle them. If you're going
to try to kill someone, be prepared for that." ."
- " If a woman
carries a sword, the others who do not carry one will make fun of
her" ."
- « This idea, though
strange, actually touches on something central. Discrimination against
women is largely based on the idea that they are small and weak. If both
treat each other with the respect they deserve, knowing that one might
kill the other, society could be more efficient. .»
- « In the US, where gun
ownership is permitted, one in five women is raped at least once in her
life ."
- « The real enemy of
women is other women. They end up cutting each other .»
