The original science fiction anime Apocalypse Hotel has revealed a new character joining its post-apocalyptic story. Following the airing of episode 8, it was announced that popular voice actor Natsuki Hanae (known for playing Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) will play Ponstin, an enigmatic doctor belonging to the alien Tanuki race.

Who is Ponstin?

Ponstin is a tanuki who takes human form to coexist in the anime's post-human world. He appears as an attractive man in his thirties, casually dressed in a light blue jacket, white T-shirt, blue jeans, and loafers. His most distinctive features include a tanuki-like part in his hair and a fluffy golden leaf tail growing out of his back. Despite his friendly appearance, his personality seems serious and reserved.

An original story in a world that has forgotten humanity

Apocalypse Hotel is an original production created by CyberAgent and Cygames Pictures, directed by Kana Shundo. The script is written by Shigeru Murakoshi and the music is by Yoshiaki Fujisawa. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll as part of the 2025 spring season.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where human civilization has collapsed. Among the ruins of Tokyo's Ginza district, a lonely hotel remains standing, overrun by nature and completely forgotten. With no guests, no reservations, no visitors to its website: this is the setting for a plot of mystery and survival in a world that is slowly forgetting the existence of humanity.
