Renowned
illustrator Yūsuke Murata announced on Wednesday,
May 21, that the One-Punch Man manga will be
taking a two-month hiatus due to "various circumstances." The series
will reportedly resume publication on July 17 via Shueisha 's
free Tonari no Young Jump web service .
This isn't
the first time the series has gone on hiatus, as its serialization was also
temporarily halted in June 2024. While the specific reasons for this
new hiatus haven't been revealed, fans will have to wait until mid-summer to
find out how Saitama 's story continues .
A series
with history and legacy
One-Punch
Man is a
remake of the original webcomic created by ONE , and
officially began serialization with art by Murata in 2012. Since then, the work
has been a worldwide success, amassing tens of millions of readers and anime
fans.
The 33rd compiled book volume was
released on April 4 , cementing the series' popularity and
continued popularity. In the Western market, Viz Media distributes
the manga in both digital and print formats.
The
anime and its long-awaited return
The
One-Punch Man anime
adaptation originally premiered in October 2015 and
quickly became a phenomenon. Viz Media and Daisuki streamed
the first season outside of Japan, while Toonami brought it to
American television in July 2016 .
The second
season arrived in April 2019 , with full distribution
licensed in North America, Latin America, and Oceania under Viz Media,
while Crunchyroll aired it in several regions across Europe,
the Middle East, and Africa.
Currently,
it has been confirmed that the third season of the anime will
premiere in October 2025 , with some of the original cast and
crew returning to production.
Hollywood
also wants a Saitama punch
The
expansion of One-Punch Man is not limited to just manga and
anime. In June 2022 , Deadline reported that Sony
Pictures had hired Justin Lin to direct a live-action
film based on the franchise. More recently, in April 2024 , The
Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the script is being rewritten
by Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon ,
along with Heather Anne Campbell .
Despite the
temporary hiatus, the One-Punch Man universe continues to grow
both inside and outside of the manga, promising an explosive return this
summer.
