Talented author  Sana Kirioka , known for her beloved work on Taisho Otome Otogi Banashi , has launched a new manga titled Rikka Kitan through Kodansha 's Comic Days app . The series debuted on Monday, May 20, 2025 (UTC+2), and its first compiled book volume has been confirmed for release on August 20 .

The story takes us to a fantasy world of Edo , where a werewolf named Tōma works as a patrolman, protecting the city's peace. His quiet routine changes dramatically when he saves a mysterious young woman, Rikka , who is fleeing from unknown attackers. Rikka turns out to be a noblewoman from the distant territory of Izumo , carrying a secret that has turned her life into a constant escape.

Moved by compassion, Tōma decides to offer her shelter. But what begins as an altruistic gesture quickly becomes a challenge for both of them, especially since it's Tōma's first time living with a girl . While Rikka yearns for the quiet life of a patrolman, they must both face the consequences of this new bond in a city that holds more secrets than it seems.

From Taisho sweetness to Edo tension

Kirioka began her career with the successful manga Taisho Otome Otogi Banashi , serialized in Shueisha 's Jump SQ magazine from 2015 to 2017 . Its sequel, Showa Otome Otogi Banashi , was published digitally through Shonen Jump+ and concluded in 2020 . Both stories won over readers with their blend of romance, period drama, and emotional sensitivity.

The franchise even made its way to television with an animated adaptation that premiered in October 2021 , available through Funimation . Additionally, Kirioka also explored the universe of her characters with the spin-off Taisho Otome Otogi Banashi: Enseika no Shokutaku , which ran from July to December 2021 .

With Rikka Kitan , the author bets on a story full of action, romance and supernatural elements, opening a new era that promises to captivate both her regular fans and new readers looking for excitement in a fantastical and traditional setting.
