Shueisha's
Grand Jump magazine announced in its 13th issue of the year that the manga
Otona no Susume, by author Fumio Obata, will cease publication in the magazine
and migrate to the digital platform Mecha Comic starting with its 22nd chapter.
The work,
described as a violent thriller, revolves around a desperate father seeking to
save his son from the clutches of organized crime. With an intense plot and
characters marked by their moral dilemmas, the series has captured the
attention of readers since its debut.
A Story of
Redemption and Darkness
Otona no
Susume was released in April 2024 and has maintained a steady publication since
then. Shueisha published the second compiled book volume on April 17,
indicating that the series already has a solid base of chapters before its
transition to digital format.
Fumio
Obata: An Author with a Long History
Fumio Obata
is no stranger to success. His work Shimauma, originally published in
Shonengahosha's Young King magazine in 2010, was adapted into a live-action
film in May 2016, starring Kyoko Hinami. This work cemented his reputation in
the adult thriller manga world.
Additionally,
Obata worked on the Yokokuhan spinoff, titled Yokokuhan: The Copycat, based on
the original manga by Tetsuya Tsutsui. This series was initially published in
Jump X and then moved to Young Jump in March 2015, concluding in August of the
same year with three compiled volumes.
A New Stage
for the Series
The change
in format represents a new stage for Otona no Susume, which will continue its
development through a digital format on Mecha Comic, a platform that has gained
popularity among adult manga readers. The change will allow the story to reach
new audiences and have a more agile and accessible distribution. Fans of adult
suspense manga will undoubtedly have reason to keep a close eye on this series
in the coming months.
