The
production company Pony Canyon surprised fans with the release
of the first full trailer for the new arc of the Tokyo Revengers anime,
titled "The War of the Three Titans" (Tokyo
Revengers: Santen Sensō-hen). This new stage in history will officially
arrive sometime in 2026, as announced this Sunday on the project's
official networks.
New
character and important changes in the production team
One of the
most outstanding announcements of the trailer was the incorporation of the
renowned seiyuu Mariya Ise, who will play Senju Kawaragi,
a character that will have a key role in this new stage of the conflict.
As for the
production, it was confirmed that Maki Kodaira (known for his
work on The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse) will
take over the direction of the anime under the LIDEN FILMS studio,
replacing Koichi Hatsumi. The latter will continue to collaborate
as script supervisor.
A story
of revenge, pain, and crucial decisions
The
official synopsis anticipates that after the bloody outcome of the Tenjiku arc,
the members of the Tokyo Manji Band go their separate ways.
Meanwhile, Takemichi Hanagaki continues to be marked by the
figure of Tetta Kisaki and discovers the whole truth about
time travel. For his part, Manjiro Sano (Mikey) makes a
transcendental decision.
Takemichi
finally manages to reach a future in which Hinata is still
alive, but someone important has disappeared. In the middle of this new
timeline, three groups fight for total dominance. Thus begins the final
stage: the real revenge is about to begin!
The
technical team is renewed, but keeps familiar faces
In addition
to the aforementioned changes, new talents are joining the design team such
as Airi Tsuyuki and Kae Takakura, who will work
alongside veteran designers Keiko Ōta and Kenichi
Ōnuki. In the technical section, Yoshitomo Hara joins as a
designer of motorcycles and props together with Hideki Fukushima.
Kōji
Ietaka is also
integrated as the new director of photography and LIDEN FILMS continues
to be in charge of the 3D CG work. Some key members return: Yasuyuki
Mutō in script, Rumi Matsumoto in art
direction, Kunio Tsujita in color, Satoki Iida as
sound director and Hiroaki Tsutsumi in music composition.
A review
of the Tokyo Revengers phenomenon
The anime
based on Ken Wakui's manga has become an international
phenomenon since its first broadcast in April 2021. Its third
season, focused on the Tenjiku arc, premiered in October
2023, with global distribution through Disney+, except in
mainland China.
The
original manga was serialized between March 2017 and November
2022 in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Currently, the
spinoff Tokyo Revengers Extra is published, focusing on the
founders of the Tokyo Manji Band.
From
paper to screen: adaptations made
The story
follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a young man who discovers that his
former girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, has died at the hands of
the Tokyo Manji Gang. After a mysterious journey through time, he
returns to his adolescence with the determination to change his destiny and
save her. This struggle leads him to confront powerful gangs and his own past.
In addition
to anime, Tokyo Revengers has had successful live-action
adaptations. The first film debuted in July 2021 and was the
highest-grossing live-action film of the year in Japan. Two sequels
followed: Chi no Halloween -Unmei- in April 2023 and Chi
no Halloween -Kessen- in June of the same year.
