Studio
Kinema Citrus has
revealed new details of its upcoming original project, Goodbye, Lara,
including a teaser trailer, new promotional artwork, and character
art. This production commemorates the studio's 15th anniversary and
is scheduled to be released in 2026.
A modern
mermaid with a timeless story
Goodbye,
Lara is a reinterpretation of Hans Christian Andersen's "The
Little Mermaid" set in modern-day Japan. The main
character, Lara, is a young mermaid with red hair and blue
eyes, whose lower body is a red-scaled fish tail. In the concept art
revealed, Lara appears in an elegant outfit, inspired by Victorian nobility,
and a bright tear sliding down her cheek, generating a strong
visual impact.
The team
behind the magic
The
direction of the anime is in charge of Takushi Koide, while Shiori
Tani is in charge of character design. The series is composed by Anna
Kawahara, and Yuma Yamaguchi will be responsible for the
music, promising an emotional and immersive experience.
Voice
actress Hana Hishikawa (known for her role as Takahashi
in Demon Lord 2099) will play Lara, adding her talents to a
character that is shaping up to be the emotional center of this story.
A
production that promises to excite, and a lot
Goodbye,
Lara was first announced in May 2024 as part of Kinema Citrus'
celebration of its 15-year history, a studio known for works such as Made
in Abyss and My Happy Marriage. With its original
proposal, the series seeks to touch the hearts of the public through a classic
story told from a new perspective.
The
premiere is scheduled for sometime in 2026, although an exact date
and distribution platform have not yet been confirmed. However, with the
support of the prestige of Kinema Citrus, Goodbye, Lara is
already emerging as one of the most anticipated projects of the coming years.
