The Demon
Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba franchise continues to break records. His
most recent film installment, Infinity Castle, has become the tenth
highest-grossing film of all time in Japan. The news was confirmed on
August 3 through official channels, revealing impressive figures just 17 days
after its premiere.
With a
total gross of 17.63 billion yen (approximately $119.26
million) and more than 12.5 million tickets sold, the film is
also positioned as the most successful of the year in Japan,
surpassing Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback, which had led with
14.4 billion yen.
A feat
that replicates the success of Mugen Train
This new
milestone is reminiscent of the one achieved by Mugen Train in
2020, which also reached the historic tenth place in just 17 days.
However, Infinity Castle has grossed nearly 2 billion yen more in
the same period, reflecting the franchise's unstoppable growth.
In
addition, the film is now ranked as the seventh highest-grossing anime
film in Japan, behind only legendary titles such as Howl's Moving
Castle (19.6 billion yen) and Princess Mononoke (20.1
billion yen).
The team
behind the phenomenon
The film is
directed by Haruo Sotozaki at the ufotable animation
studio. Akira Matsushima serves as animation director and
character designer, while the music is provided by Yuki Kajiura and Go
Shiina. The release in Japanese theaters was on July 18, and
its arrival in theaters in the United States and Canada is scheduled
for September 12. More details of the international premiere will be
announced soon.
What is
Infinity Castle about?
Tanjiro
Kamado continues his fight as a member of the Demon Extermination Corps,
determined to protect his sister Nezuko and eradicate the demons that threaten
humanity. At this stage of the story, after strengthening his ties with
Zenitsu, Inosuke and the Hashira, Tanjiro participates in the Hashira
training, an intensive preparation for the final confrontation against
Muzan Kibutsuji.
When Muzan
attacks the Ubuyashiki Mansion, the confrontation intensifies. The members of
the Corps and the Hashira are drawn into an unknown dimension: the Infinite
Castle, the core of demonic power. Thus begins the ultimate battle
between humans and demons, with everyone's fate at stake.
