The
official website of the anime based on the Sono Keisatsu manga,
Tokidoki Yajū! by Sigma Torai announced on Monday
that production has been canceled due to "various
circumstances." The series, which was planned to premiere this year,
will not finally see the light of day.
A story
that mixed romance and tension
The story
revolves around Hiyori, a shy office worker, and Kumano,
an enigmatic policeman. It all begins when Hiyori suffers an accident that
fractures her arm, and Kumano – who witnesses the event – decides to take care
of her during her recovery. Although Hiyori initially feels safe because he is
a police officer, she soon discovers that Kumano is not as controlled
as he appears.
Production
cancelled with a promising team
The anime
featured Kazuhiro Toda as head director, known for his work
on I Want to Be His Prey. Saburou Miura was to be
in charge of the general direction and scripts, while Yukihiro Makino would
be assistant director. The character designer would be Haruna Kamiyama (romanization
unconfirmed), and Hisayoshi Hirasawa would be in charge of the
sound direction.
A
successful manga that was left without adaptation
The manga,
published under Ichijinsha's LOVEBITES digital
imprint, reached its tenth volume on April 1, and has more
than 2 million copies in circulation. This cancellation represents
a hard blow for its fans, who were eagerly awaiting its arrival on the screen.
Torai is
also known for his play Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji.,
which was adapted into an anime in 2017 under the English title My
Matchmaking Partner is a Student, An Aggressive Troublemaker. This
production was part of the AnimeFesta programming block.
