Special
Series: The Making of The Summer Hikaru Died
Along with
this announcement, a documentary series titled The Making of The Summer
Hikaru Died has been released, the first episode of which is now
available on Kadokawa Anime's YouTube channel. Under the
title "Horror", this installment includes interviews
with the creators, who explain how they managed to capture the unsettling
atmosphere of the manga in the animated adaptation and generate a real feeling
of fear in the audience.
After
learning the production secrets, fans can enjoy the new narrative
visual of the series, an image loaded with symbolism that anticipates
what will happen in the next episodes.
Award-Acclaimed
Manga
Mokumokuren's original manga began
publication in August 2021 on Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace Up platform
and currently has seven compilation volumes. The work has received multiple
awards, including first place on the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list
for male readers in 2023, as well as nominations for the Manga Taisho,
the Tsutaya Comic Awards, the Eisner Awards, and
the Next Manga Award.
Global
production and distribution
The
adaptation is directed by Ryohei Takeshita (Jellyfish Can't
Swim in the Night) at CygamesPictures, who also serves as the
series' composer. The character design is in charge of Yuichi Takahashi (Vivy:
Fluorite Eye's Song), while Masanobu Hiraoka (Chainsaw
Man) is in charge of the experimental animation "Dorodoro". The
anime is streamed exclusively through Netflix worldwide.
A
disturbing story
The
publisher Yen Press publishes the official English version of
the manga, whose plot follows Yoshiki, a young man who tries to
live with someone who looks, talks and remembers as his best friend Hikaru...
but in reality it is not. What came down from the mountains six months ago has
a disturbing secret, and continuing school life as if nothing had changed could
become the most dangerous decision of all.
