It seems
that not even the darkest and dirtiest anime of the year is safe from the
scissors of censorship. Episode 20 of Gachiakuta it has left a
bitter taste among readers of the manga, who expected to see one of the most
rebellious scenes adapted Rough. Despite dominating the trends
in Crunchyroll for weeks, the series has softened a key
moment, somewhat betraying that "street punk" vibe that characterizes
it.
From an
insult to a "I don't like it"
The change
occurred in a scene adapted from chapter 71 of the manga. In the original
material, Rough he furiously shows the middle finger to Zodyl
Typhon (one of the current antagonists), a gesture that perfectly
defines his defiant attitude. However, in the anime produced by Studio
Bones- this was replaced by a simple "thumbs down" gesture. It
may seem like a minor detail, but for fans, it eliminates the aggressiveness
and visual impact of the moment.
Why
censorship?
The most likely reason is age classification. Unlike series like Chainsaw Man o Tougen Anki, which aim at a more mature audience (+18), Gachiakuta it appears to have been positioned for a slightly wider audience to maximize its reach on television. This would have forced the studio to "clean up" certain rude gestures. Although some remain hopeful that the uncensored version will arrive at the launch of the Blu-ray, modifying the animation is expensive and not always guaranteed.
