Cheers for this news! Coinciding with the launch of the Beaujolais Nouveau, Pony Canyon announced that the acclaimed wine manga Drops of God (Kami no Shizuku), created by Tadashi Agi and Shu Okimoto, will receive its first anime adaptation in 2026. The biggest surprise is the return of Kazuya Kamenashi, who played the protagonist in the 2009 drama and will now give him a voice in animation after 16 years.
For Kazuya Kamenashi, this project marks a milestone: it is the first time that he will play the same character both in live-action like in anime. Along with him, renowned voice actors join in:
- Kazuya Kamenashi (Ryu Odagiri in Gokusen 2, Bem in Humanoid Monster Bem) as Shizuku Kanzaki.
- Takuya Sato (Caesar Zeppeli in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Albert James Moriarty in Moriarty the Patriot) as Issei Tomine.
- Maaya Uchida (Rikka Takanashi in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Hiyori Iki in Noragami) as Miyabi Shinohara.
Production and legacy team
The series will be animated by the studio Satelight in collaboration with YANCHESTER, under the direction of Kenji Itoso (Aquarion: Myth of Emotions). The scripts will be supervised by Yū Mitsuru, while Takehiro Suwa he will be in charge of character design and Eishi Segawa (Ushio & Tora) of music.
The original manga, published between 2004 and 2014, is famous for having unleashed a global wine boom thanks to its dramatic and poetic narrative. With more than 15 million copies in circulation, the work already inspired a Japanese series in 2009 and an international co-production in 2023 (whose second season also arrives in 2026).
