A manga about libraries and outstanding debts becomes a double adaptation. Kodansha announced on Friday both an anime adaptation and a live-action drama for Zuino's Katta Hon (Books Bought with Tax) manga Zeikin with illustrations by Kei Keiyama. Along with the announcement, the official promotional image and the team behind the drama were revealed. The live-action will premiere on NHK General TV in the summer of 2026, at 10:45 p.m.

Japanese actor Daiken Okudaira, known for Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia, will star in the live-action drama.

Details of Katta Hon's Zeikin live-action drama

At the moment only details of the live-action have been revealed. The direction will be shared between Tomoki Sakanashi (Saraba, yoki hi) and Hiroyuki Muramatsu (Kurohyou). The script will be written by Riko Sakaguchi (Mary to Majo no Hana), and the music will be composed by Kei Yoshikawa (Koroshi Ai). The production will be supported by Tosaka Planning and NHK. Details of the anime, including studio, equipment, and date, have not yet been revealed.

What is the story about?

Ishidaira is a troubled boy who hasn't set foot in a library since elementary school. One day he returns and discovers that he has a book that has not been returned for ten years. To pay off the debt, he ends up working part-time at the library. What sounds like punishment turns out to be the beginning of something much more interesting.

About the work

Zuino's manga began serialization in Young Magazine Web in August 2021, before moving to Weekly Young Magazine in December of that same year. Kodansha published the eighteenth compiled volume on February 6.
