A manga
about libraries and outstanding debts becomes a double adaptation. Kodansha announced
on Friday both an anime adaptation and a live-action
drama for Zuino's Katta Hon (Books Bought with Tax)
manga Zeikin with illustrations by Kei Keiyama. Along with the
announcement, the official promotional image and the team behind the drama were
revealed. The live-action will premiere on NHK General TV in
the summer of 2026, at 10:45 p.m.
Japanese
actor Daiken Okudaira, known for Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia,
will star in the live-action drama.
Details
of Katta Hon's Zeikin live-action drama
At the
moment only details of the live-action have been revealed. The direction will
be shared between Tomoki Sakanashi (Saraba, yoki hi)
and Hiroyuki Muramatsu (Kurohyou). The script will be
written by Riko Sakaguchi (Mary to Majo no Hana), and
the music will be composed by Kei Yoshikawa (Koroshi Ai).
The production will be supported by Tosaka Planning and NHK.
Details of the anime, including studio, equipment, and date, have not yet been
revealed.
What is
the story about?
Ishidaira
is a troubled boy who hasn't set foot in a library since elementary school. One
day he returns and discovers that he has a book that has not been returned for
ten years. To pay off the debt, he ends up working part-time at the library.
What sounds like punishment turns out to be the beginning of something much
more interesting.

the work
Zuino's manga began serialization
in Young Magazine Web in August 2021, before moving to Weekly
Young Magazine in December of that same year. Kodansha published
the eighteenth compiled volume on February 6.
