The drama about art and ambition that has been waiting for its moment on the small screen for years is already showing its cards. The official website of the animated adaptation based on the manga Eren the Southpaw (known in Japanese as Hidarikiki no Eren) revealed a new main promotional video on Tuesday. The production committee confirmed that the series will premiere on TV Tokyo on April 7, although Japanese fans will be able to enjoy an early screening of the first three episodes in theaters starting March 27.

The Japanese group ALI will perform the opening song entitled "Funkin' Beautiful feat. ZORN", while the ending theme song "New Walk" is performed by singer Ima Murasaki. Both songs can be heard in the new trailer.

Details about Eren the Southpaw

The animation work is a co-production between Production I.G and Signal.MD studios. In the director's chair is Toshimasa Suzuki (recognized for her work on RWBY: Ice Queendom and the Fafner franchise). The scripts for the series are in the hands of the experienced Taku Kishimoto (BLUE LOCK, Haikyu!!, Moriarty the Patriot).

Character designs are the responsibility of Takayuki Goto (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex), Yuka Fukuchi, and Akane Tamai, who also serve as chief animation directors.

What is the story about?

The plot follows Koichi Asakura, a high school student who aspires to attend an art school to become a designer. His view of the world changes completely when he is shocked by graffiti scrawled on the wall of a museum. The artist behind the work is Eren Yamagishi, a left-handed student whose immense talent has been suppressed since one particular incident. Through drawing, the two begin to recognize each other, marking the beginning of their respective paths: Koichi towards commercial design and Eren towards pure painting.
