of Reiwa Details
The
animation work is being done by the Asahi Production studio.
In the director's chair is Tadato Suzuki (recognized for his
work in Gushing Over Magical Girls). The character designs are
being adapted by Koichi Kikuta (part of the KONOSUBA franchise, Tamayomi,
and Blue Reflection Ray). The original soundtrack is being composed
by Rei Ishizuka, under the musical production of the Lantis label.
Along with
these announcements, an official cosplay project starring Kei Fubuki embodying
the titular deity was revealed. The cosplayer will perform alongside the main
cast on the Kadokawa publishing house panel during the AnimeJapan 2026 event
this coming March.
What is
the story about?
The plot
follows the unexpected encounter between two young brothers and a cursed deity.
During an intense storm that turns a mountainous forest into a mud maze, a
landslide buries a "Do Not Pass" sign. The children of the Misogiya
family end up entering a dark world where they do not belong, coming face to
face with Yamatagi Madara (better known as Dara-san), a local
entity with a half-human, half-snake body and six arms.
Despite her
grotesque appearance and presenting herself as a fearsome goddess of
misfortune, Dara-san is actually a gentle, rational, and rather lonely being
who has peacefully adapted to modern civilization. From that moment on, the story
mixes elements of supernatural horror with a light comedy of coexistence in the
current era.
About
the original work
Author Haruomi Tomotsuka began publishing the manga independently through his Twitter account (now X) in October 2019, subsequently distributing compilation volumes in physical format during the Comic Market (Comiket). The growing popularity of the story caught the attention of the publisher Kadokawa, which moved its publication to the ComicWalker website in March 2022. The work maintains a steady pace, releasing its seventh volume in print in Japan on December 23.
