Needy Girl Overdose Anime Reveals Its Main Trailer And Release Date

The toxic and addictive search for validation on the internet is ready to take over the spring season, although it will do so dragging a strong controversy behind the scenes. The production committee of the animated adaptation of the acclaimed video game Needy Girl Overdose (also known in the West as Needy Streamer Overload) released its main trailer and a new promotional poster. The footage confirmed that KAngel's chaotic life will land on television on April 4.

The intense trailer allowed us to get a first look at the musical identity of the series. As anticipated, the opening theme titled "Internet Angel" features the composition of Aiobahn +81 and is performed in character by KAngel (Choten-chan) herself. On the other hand, the great musical revelation fell on the famous singer-songwriter Tatsuya Kitani, who will lend his voice to perform the dark ending theme called "Levitation".

The corridors of the Yostar Pictures studio are in charge of bringing this project to animation. The main direction is in charge of Masaoki Nakajima (recognized for his work on projects such as Blue Archive The Animation). At the core of the character design is a concerted effort between artists such as Kenji SaikaiAkari Takei, and Umito Shimizu, who are adapting the iconic original designs created by Ohisashiburi for the game.

The legal controversy behind the anime

Despite the imminent premiere, the production is stained by a dense cloud of legal problems. Last November, writer nyalra (the original creator, screenwriter and responsible for the musical lyrics of the project) issued an official statement denouncing that the production company WSS playground had abruptly removed him from the management and promotion of the anime.

More seriously, Nyalra claimed that she has not received full financial compensation for her creative work on the series. Currently, their legal representatives are in full negotiations and legal consultations with the production company to protect their integrity and copyright, leaving a bittersweet taste in the community ahead of this debut.

What is the story about?

Based on the successful visual novel with multiple endings, the plot exposes the murkier and more real side of internet culture. The story follows the day-to-day life of an unstable young woman in dire need of approval who adopts the façade of "OMGkawaiiAngel" with the goal of becoming the "Angel of the Internet" (the world's number one streamer).

The viewer must accompany (or control) her to gradually increase her follower count while she spends her days livestreaming, consuming questionable "relaxants" to deal with stress, and suffering severe emotional lows. The big question is: is it possible to find a happy ending in the midst of so many toxic ups and downs?
