The most
paternal dragon in shonen manga already has a confirmed adaptation. Publisher
Kadokawa announced on Wednesday that the manga Skull Dragon's
Precious Daughter (known in Japanese as Hone Dragon no
Manamusume) will receive an anime adaptation for television. The production
committee accompanied the reveal with a first visual image and confirmed the
main members of the work team.
Along with
this official announcement, the author of the original work, Ichi
Yukishiro, published a special illustration to commemorate the news with
his readers and thank the support the franchise has received.

of Skull Dragon's Precious Daughter
The
animation work is being done by the Doga Kobo studio. In the
director's chair is Kuniyasu Nishina (episode director
on Oshi no Ko and 86). The scripts for the series
are in the hands of Yuka Yamada (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon
Maid S), while Tomoya Atsumi (key animator in Demon
Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) adapts the character designs.
For its
part, the art direction and backgrounds are a joint effort between Daiki
Kuribayashi (7th Time Loop) and Yuki Hatakeyama (Black
Butler: Emerald Witch Arc), both creatives belonging to the specialized
company Kusanagi.
Author's
comment
Ichi
Yukishiro shared his impressions of the announcement: when he received the
news, he had a hard time processing his emotions because it seemed unreal. He
remembers how his publisher reminded him that anime was still far away and that
he had to continue working on the manga. He thanked the production team, those
who supported the original manga, and all the readers, and assured that the
anime is being created with incredible passion in every detail.
What is
the story about?
The premise
takes place in the Junk Forest, a place where all kinds of things are discarded
and where an old dragon sleeps spending his last days. His routine changes
radically when an abandoned human girl named Eve appears
before him. Despite being only five years old, she has managed to survive the
dangers of the environment. In an act of mercy, the dragon decides to raise her
knowing that her life time is running out.
After five
years together, the dragon finally passes away. However, what he didn't know is
that Eve is capable of using magic on a large scale, using it to resurrect him
as a skeletal dragon. Now, the unlikely family will embark on an adventure with
the aim of the young woman learning to control her immense abilities before her
father's new body of bones crumbles.
