Visiting
Japan is always the ultimate dream for any pop culture fan, but the travel
experience is about to take it up a notch. Starting July 7, 2026, the Noto
Satoyama Airport facility in Ishikawa Prefecture will change its name
and appearance to officially become the first Pokémon-themed terminal
worldwide. This ambitious project promises to transform a boring waiting room
into a huge interactive exploration area that will greet tourists from the
moment they step off the plane.
A
paradise full of flying creatures
The main
attraction that will greet travelers will be a gigantic floating
Pikachu suspended in the central atrium next to a hot air balloon.
However, the real fun lies in the design of the interiors, as the creatives
strategically hid the one hundred and eleven flying-type species along the
corridors, boarding bridges and observation areas. The idea is that passengers
turn their free time into a real visual hunt to find all the creatures hidden
in the corners of the building, giving a dynamic twist to the long waits
between flights.
But this
colorful initiative has a much more human and important background. The
Pokémon Company's project was born as a long-term effort to boost
tourism and support the economic recovery of the Noto region, which suffered
the severe ravages of an earthquake in 2024. Right in the main lobby,
passengers will be greeted by beautiful three-dimensional Plusle and Minun
monuments, inspired by illustrations that were originally created to provide a
message of hope to residents during the toughest times of local reconstruction.
Exclusivity
down to the last detail
In addition
to the stunning architectural redesign, the facility will feature its own
exclusive merchandise line and a café equipped with themed menus. Visitors will
also be able to enjoy original animated content via their smartphones as they
explore the site, including a tender special short film starring a little Bagon who
dreams of taking to the skies. The entire venue is designed to keep the spirit
of adventure alive until the last minute before taking flight to a new
destination.
Knowing
that this wonderful collaboration will be in place for almost three years,
officially ending until September 2029, there is plenty of time to plan a
travel itinerary
