In lieu of the next episode's broadcast scheduled for May 1, the first episode of the series will re-air, and the broadcast will be suspended after that. Although the site did not reveal the reasons, it is inferred that the suspension responds to the Japanese government's instructions to slow down the spread of the new Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The series premiered on December 27, and is a direct sequel to the Youkai Watch Movie: Youkai Gakuen Y - Neko wa Hero ni Nareru ka, which premiered in theaters in Japan on December 13, 2019.
About Youkai Watch
The multimedia franchise began with the launch of the first game developed by Level-5 for the Nintendo 3DS console in 2013. Three main sequels and numerous spin-offs on both Nintendo and mobile consoles have been released to date, expanding even to consoles from Sony.
Six manga adaptations have also been serialized, one in particular, the one published in the Shogakukan editorial magazine Coro Coro Comics since December 2012, which received an award. However, the franchise gained popularity for the anime adaptation released in January 2014 and produced by OLM Studios. This was followed by an animated film in December 2014, and later three others.
Synopsis
The franchise's overall story centers on befriending the youkai who terrorize the city. If someone befriends you, they get their friendship medal, an item that allows a person to summon the aforementioned youkai to fight with others, or to help him in something else.
