One Piece revealed new details about its live-action series

During an interview with Tomorrow Studios member Marty Adelstein, new details were revealed about the status of production for the live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda's manga One Piece.

“The recordings should be starting their preparations in August in Cape Town, South Africa. We anticipate that we will be able to start recording in September at the latest. ”


Furthermore, when asked about the state of production, he added:

“Basically we already have the ten scripts for each episode written. So we will start the casting once we return to normal activities. I estimate that this would be next June 1. Several proposed names have already emerged among the production, so everything should be ready to start in September. We have been working closely with Oda-sensei. So, from now on, this production is quite large, much more than Snowpiercer. ”

Under the supervision of author Eiichiro Oda, producer Steven Maeda previously commented on the following:

“I am excited to be working on that straw hat group live-action series with the talented Matt Owens, Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. We thank Oda-sensei for trusting us. ”


Production team

Tomorrow Studios, a collaboration between producer Marty Adelstein (Prison Break, Teen Wolf) and ITV Studios, is producing this live-action series. Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is the screenwriter and Steven Maeda and Becky Clements are also executive producers.

Adelstein stated in a video presented at the Jump Festa 2017 event that the live-action series would begin in the "East Blue Saga" and that "it would continue from there." He also assured that the series will be "completely faithful to the original work" and it is confirmed that it will have a total of ten episodes. In fact, Netflix has already launched the official page of the adaptation (link) where it describes the series as "a story of pirates full of adventures with real actors based on the hit manga by Eiichiro Oda".

On the other hand, One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and published in the Shueisha editorial Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since July 1997. The franchise has inspired multiple adaptations to other media, the main one being the anime that It has been broadcast since October 1999 and has been produced by Toei Animation Studios ever since. However, it recently announced the indefinite suspension of its broadcast due to the effects of the Coronavirus in Japan.
