The number of copies in circulation of the Weekly Shonen Jump is declining

The Japan Magazine Publishing Association (JMPA) reported that the print copies in circulation of Shueisha Publishing's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine fell to 1,572,833 during the period January to March 2020. The JMPA reported that the number of copies in Circulation between October and December 2020 was 1,602,083.

In a second comparison, the number of copies in circulation of the magazine in the period from January to March 2019 was 1,706,923. Copies of the magazine in circulation had already fallen from two million since 2017. The JMPA released a chart showing a decline in published copies of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine issues from January 2014 to March 2017. The record for Copies in circulation of the magazine was established in 1994, with 6.53 million, so the current amount does not represent even a quarter of that time.

The magazine published an official statement on May 11 in which the editorial team warned of the possibility of multiple delays in the works that are currently serialized in the magazine, since the authors are working in ways that ensure their health, reason why the time to make the manuscripts has increased considerably. Shueisha Publishing delayed the release of compiled volumes scheduled for this month's manga published in the Weekly Shonen Jump and other magazines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
