A Tokyo gubernatorial candidate cosplayed as Code Geass' Lelouch

Teruki Gotou, a musician who often runs in Japan's election (and who has become a perennial candidate for never having won to date), cosplayed the character Lelouch Lamperouge from the Code Geass franchise at its most recent billboard for the Tokyo gubernatorial election.

Gotou showed his poster through his YouTube channel, and read the slogan of it, which reads: "I, Teruki Gotou, I order you: Vote for me." Making a clear reference to Lelouch's ability in the animated series.

Gotou claims in the video that the photo was taken about two years ago, and that he has seen the new Code Geass film project on several occasions. He mentioned that he chose to do a Lelouch cosplay because of the impact the franchise was having at the time.

Also, in his 2016 run for the Tokyo governorship, his campaign poster showed him naked wearing a katana over his head. Infamously during that time, his speeches and posters were not covered by Japanese television, due to his verbal blasphemies and his militaristic presentation.

About Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch

It is an original series produced by Sunrise Studios, directed by Goro Taniguchi and written by Ichiro Okouchi, with original CLAMP designs. The story centers on the exiled prince Lelouch vi Britannia, who gains the "power of absolute obedience" from a mysterious woman named C.C.

The series was broadcast in Japan through the MBS channel in October 2006, with a total of 25 episodes, to later air a second season in April 2008, also with 25 episodes. The franchise inspired adaptations to manga and light novels, as well as a series of compilation movies that ended with a new movie that expanded on the original story.
