A political campaign in Japan is accused of plagiarism to Kimetsu no Yaiba

The editorial department of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine released a statement via Twitter denying any connection to a recent political advertisement. The announcement stated: "We are aware of the existence of political advertising that uses Kimetsu no Yaiba concepts, however, neither Shueisha nor the Editorial Department of Weekly Shonen Jump are linked to this event."

Although it makes no mention, the post makes a reference to an advertising poster made for Keisuke Mitsumoto and Hirofumi Yoshimura's Nippon Ishin no Kai campaign, which went viral on social media in Japan earlier this week. The billboard uses a logo similar to that of Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as color patterns identical to that of Tanjirou Kamado's costume.

It is worth mentioning that it is not the first time that the franchise takes an unexpected leap into the field of politics, since last year the Hong Kong Police Department was criticized for its mascot "The Little Grape", which is clearly inspired by it. character, although the staff assured that it is completely original.

Finally, Koyoharu Gotouge published the original manga in Shueisha publisher's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016 and finalized it in May 2020 with a total of 23 volumes. The animated adaptation of the manga had a total of 26 episodes and was produced by Ufotable studios, under the direction of Haruo Sotozaki and released in April 2019. Subsequently, a film titled Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen, was released in theaters in Japan on October 16.
