During the MAPPA Stage 2023 event , it was announced that famed director Hiroko Utsumi will once again collaborate with MAPPA studios for the production of a new original anime series under the title Bucchigiri?! , a play that will combine Japanese-style school delinquents and stories from the classic collection of Middle Eastern folktales, The Thousand and One Nights . To announce this release, a promotional video and a visual were posted.
Production team
- Takahiro Kagami will be in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Taku Kishimoto will write the scripts for the series.
- Michiru Oshima will be in charge of the soundtrack.
It must be remembered that the alliance between Utsumi and the MAPPA studios is not a novelty since they have previously collaborated on the anime adaptation of the Banana Fish manga , released in 2018. Hiroko Utsumi is also recognized for having taken over the direction of projects like Sk8 the Infinity and some movies from the Free! .
