On the official site for the anime adaptation of the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe , Sousou no Frieren ( Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ), a new promotional video for the project was revealed. The video confirms again that the premiere is scheduled for September 29 in Japan with a first episode of two hours (also considering commercial breaks).
Theme songs for this project were also announced, including:
- YOASOBI will be performing the opening theme song “Yuusha,” while Milet will be performing the ending theme song “ Anytime Anywhere .”
- YOASOBI commented on it, “ We are big fans of “Sousou no Frieren” and we are very honored to be able to participate here with a song. We were very aware of how much of the lonely atmosphere we felt while reading the work, and of Frieren's emotional movements as he became aware of his unknown feelings during his journey, could be packaged into the music we wrote. We hope you enjoy the opening theme song "Yuusha" along with the anime ."
- Milet commented on it: « I want to feel you in my heart at all times and in all places. I also want to be in your heart. I always wanted a promise because I wanted to feel safe, but when I felt you strong in my heart, I realized that I didn't need a promise. No matter how many times I am reborn, I want to see you. Even if I am born as a flower, I want to bloom next to you. Even if I become a star, I want to spin by your side. I'm happier than anything to be able to think of you and sing about you now. I have sung about these feelings. No matter what time of day, no matter where you are, I want to be close to you with this song ."
On the other hand, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe began publishing the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 2020. It had previously been reported that the literary franchise has exceeded 7.2 million copies in circulation.
Synopsis of Sousou no Frieren
The Demon King has been defeated, and the victorious group of heroes have returned to their respective homes after disbanding. The four of them - the magician Frieren, the hero Himmel, the priest Heiter and the warrior Eisen - reminisce about their decade-long journey when it's time to say goodbye. But the passage of time is different for elves, so Frieren witnesses how her beloved companions slowly die.
Before his death, Heiter manages to force a young human apprentice named Fern on Frieren. Driven by the elf's passion for collecting a large number of magical spells, the pair embark on a seemingly aimless journey, revisiting the places that heroes of old had visited. Throughout his travels, Frieren slowly comes to grips with his regret over missed opportunities to form deeper bonds with his now-deceased comrades.
