The best ecchi without 'princes' protagonists

In a lively debate on a popular anime forum, members have immersed themselves in a discussion about ecchi and harem anime series that lack what they call “ princess protagonists .  This term, although it can vary in its interpretation, generally refers to male characters in these series who exhibit traits of weakness, lack of determination or excessive submission to the female heroines, resulting in a lack of development of their own personality and character. .

In the context of ecchi and harem anime, a “prince” is a male protagonist who lacks characteristics of leadership, willpower, or determination. These characters are usually passive, indecisive or submissive, allowing the female heroines to take control of the plot and situations, but not letting their relationship with them progress. Instead of being strong, charismatic figures, “princes” are often portrayed as weak, complacent, or even incompetent , resulting in a lack of empathy on the part of the audience and a frustrating viewing experience.

The dislike of “princes” in the ecchi and harem anime fan community arises from several reasons. First of all, these characters lack depth and development, making them difficult to relate to or sympathize with. Their lack of agency and independent character often results in predictable and boring plots, where female heroines dominate the narrative without challenge.

Furthermore, the representation of “princes” reinforces negative gender stereotypes, perpetuating the idea that men should be passive or subservient to women. This can be alienating to male viewers who look for strong, empowered male characters in their anime series.
