Singer-songwriter Masafumi Gotoh ,
leader of the popular Japanese band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION ,
has shared a moving message addressed to the “ Bocchithe Rock! ” franchise . ” and to the Kessoku Band ,
expressing his gratitude for the impact the series has had on the music of his
band, which has been active for more than 25 years.
In his message, Gotoh commented on how the
recent “Bocchi the Rock!” compilation film has rekindled interest in the songs
and story of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION . Although the band has been on
the music scene for decades, Gotoh was surprised and grateful for the new wave
of fans who have discovered his music thanks to the popularity of the series.
“ I am sincerely happy that they continue our trajectory, even after
more than 25 years in music ,” he expressed.
Gotoh also reflected on the role of
music in people's lives, acknowledging that although he does not have a strong
desire for fame, he has always maintained the desire for his music to be heard. In
a world where digital music offers an endless ocean of new songs, reaching new
audiences can be a challenge. “ The number of new meetings and
reunions that 'Bocchi the Rock!' has brought is really significant ,”
He added.
However, Gotoh also expressed that he is
not completely comfortable with the exclusive attention his band is receiving
due to this series , and wants to make sure that
those who become interested in music through “Bocchi the Rock!” Don't just
stick with Asian Kung-Fu Generation, but explore and discover other artists and
bands. “ I want to write recommendation articles so that people can
discover other works and artists through 'Bocchi the Rock!' “He
noted.
“Bocchi the Rock!” has resonated deeply with Gotoh,
who also empathizes with the struggle of those who, like Bocchi, find it
difficult to form or join a band due to communication problems. “ Even
if you only have an instrument, or a laptop, you can start making music by
yourself. It's a small but true hope ,” he stated, adding that
this is a feeling he connects with other artists, like Phoebe Bridgers and
Waxahatchee.
On a side note, Gotoh mentioned that there are many
talented bands and artists that deserve to be discovered, and that he will
continue to feature some of them on his podcast and radio shows. “ Music
has the ability to connect people who may never have met otherwise. I hope that
the excitement of playing together can make the lives of many a little freer
and richer ,” he concluded.
Finally, Gotoh expressed his admiration for
Kessoku Band's version of the song “Re:Re:”, highlighting that the performance
was infused with characteristic elements of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION .
“ Mitsui-kun, thank you very much ,” he wrote in his thank you
message.
The community comments reflect the impact this

elegant message from Gotch to Bocchi. Yonige's songs and videos are great
too . »
- « A
direct approach from Gotch to those who became interested in Asian Kung-Fu
Generation through Kessoku Band. Let's listen to them ».
- « Re:Re:
It sounds like a guitarist who is afraid to perform in public found the
courage to sing in front of his friends. I felt the same way about
'Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu'. It could have been processed more
perfectly, but I'm sure it was intentional .
- « I
was happy to mention MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS. Its popularity in the
West has been impressive in recent years .
- « It
is a writing from someone who feels responsible for the scene. It is
strong ».
- « As
an adult, and as someone who makes a living from music, I think he is someone
who feels a great responsibility to share his thoughts. Some may not
agree, but I have always respected him .
