In an unexpected twist, all the episodes of
the long-awaited remake of “ Ranma
1/2 ” by the MAPPA studio have been leaked on the Internet months
before its official premiere , scheduled for October 2024. The
leak has occurred at through Netflix , which was confirmed by the
markings in the video files, where in some sections “Property of Netflix” could
be read, despite attempts to hide them.
This leak has not only affected “Ranma 1/2”, but also other upcoming releases, such as “Terminator Zero”, “Dandadan” and the movie “Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain” . In the case of the latter, the film has already been leaked in its entirety .
All leaks are in low quality (360p) and
are full of scrambled timestamps , plus they are
only available in Japanese. However, groups of fans are already working
on subtitling them into different languages , which could accelerate
their spread worldwide.
Ranma 1/2 ,
one of the most beloved anime series of the past decades, tells the story of
Ranma Saotome, a young martial artist who suffers a curse that turns him into a
woman upon contact with cold water and returns to his male form with Hot
water. The original series was a resounding success, and the
announcement of its remake generated great expectations among anime fans.
Consequences of the leak
Netflix faces a huge challenge with
this massive leak, which not only compromises the exclusivity of its content,
but could also affect its reputation and subscriptions . Users
may choose not to subscribe to the service if they can access content
illegally, even if it is in low quality.
On the other hand, MAPPA, the studio in
charge of the remake, could also be severely affected . Leaks can
decrease audience interest in watching the series when it finally premieres,
which could translate into financial losses and less investment in
future projects .
As for the possible sequels or continuations of
these productions, the massive leak could complicate the financing and
planning of new projects. Studios and streaming platforms will have
to rethink their distribution and security strategies , which
could lead to delays and changes to the release schedule .
