Dr. STONE to return for 'triple final season'

A recent leak claimed that the final season of the anime adaptation of “ Dr. STONE ” will premiere during the Winter-2025 period (January-March) with the title “Dr: STONE SCIENCE FUTURE.” However, it should be noted that the production previously confirmed that this final season will last for three cours (i.e. three quarters), but that each will be broadcast separately.

While this means that this final season will be at least thirty-six episodes long, the fact that it will air in three separate parts opens up the dreaded possibility of a “one part per year” release, so we could be seeing the animated finale of “Dr. STONE” as late as 2027. If that were the case, many are wondering what the point of “splitting it up” is.

For their part, Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi began publishing the manga in Shueisha 's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2017 and ended it in March 2022. The work inspired a twenty-four-episode anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment studios , under the direction of Shinya Iino and scripts written by Yuichiro Kido , released in Summer 2019 (July-September) . It was followed by a second season in Winter 2021 (January-March) and a third in Fall 2023 (October-December) .

Synopsis of Dr. STONE

After five years of harboring unspoken feelings, high school student Taiju Ooki is finally ready to confess his love to Yuzuriha Ogawa. However, just as Taiju begins his confession, a blinding green light strikes the Earth and petrifies humanity across the globe, turning every single human into stone. Several millennia later, Taiju awakens to find the modern world completely nonexistent, as nature has flourished in the years when humanity stood still.

Amongst a stone world of statues, Taiju encounters another living human: his science-loving friend Senkuu, who has been active for a few months. Taiju learns that Senkuu has developed a grand plan: to launch the complete revival of civilization with science. Taiju's strength and Senkuu's brain combine to forge a formidable partnership, and they soon discover a method to revive the petrified. However, Senkuu's master plan is threatened when his ideologies are challenged by those awakened. Meanwhile, the reason for humanity's petrification remains unknown.
