The June
issue of Akita Shoten 's Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine
has confirmed a new addition to the Tougen Anki universe .
This is the spin-off manga Tougen Anki Gaiden: Tsuki to Sakura no Kyōsō
Kyoku (Rhapsody of the Moon and Cherry Blossoms), which will launch
on June 6 in the magazine's next issue.
This
spinoff will be directed by artist Dōma Oda and will focus on
the untold past of two enigmatic characters from the Momotarou clan : Tsukuyomi
Momoka and Ousuke Momokado . The work promises to
shed light on the motivations and internal conflicts of this rival faction in
the eternal war against the Oni.
Tougen
Anki: Demons, Blood, and Fate
Tougen
Anki: Dark Demon of Paradise is a supernatural action series where the
descendants of the Oni and Momotarou have
been at odds for generations. The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose ,
abruptly discovers his Oni lineage after being attacked by a member of the
enemy clan. From that moment on, he begins a journey of self-discovery and
struggle, in which he must confront the demon within him.
A
franchise in full expansion
The
original work, written by Yura Urushibara , has been published
in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine since June 2020. To date,
it has 23 compiled volumes , the most recent released on April
8 . Yen Press began distribution in English in
September 2024, and the third volume will arrive on May
27 .
In addition
to the new spin-off manga, Tougen Anki has already inspired two stage
plays , presented in Tokyo and Osaka between February
2024 and January 2025. But that's not all: the anime adaptation already
has a confirmed premiere for July 2025 , while the development
studio Com2uS is preparing a video game for mobile
phones and PCs that will be released that same year.
With this
new work focused on the Momotarou clan, the franchise not only expands its
narrative universe, but also reinforces its position as one of the new
promises of dark shōnen .
