The production team for the animated film Hyakuemu ( 100 Meters ), based on the manga of Uoto, announced the past Friday, May 31 the incorporation of Kōki Uchiyama and Kenjirō Tsuda to the distribution of voices. Uchiyama will play Saizu, while Tsuda will give life to Kaidō, although the official romanizations of the names have not yet been confirmed.
A sports
drama with hints of rivalry and growth
Hyakuemu focuses on the lives of two
runners: Togashi, a natural talent that dominates 100-meter races
since childhood, and Komiya, a hard-working boy whose obsession
with overcoming himself is born after meeting Togashi in elementary school.
Over the years, fate turns them into rivals on the track,
where everyone will try to show who he really is.
The movie
had its world premiere the Thursday, May 30 in
the prestigious Annecy Animation Film Festival, and its official
launch in Japan is scheduled for the Thursday September 19. In
Spain, due to the time difference, this corresponds to Thursday,
September 19 at 5:00 p.m. ( UTC + 2 ).
For its
part, the distributor GKIDS will take the tape to the movie
theaters in North America during the month of October.
A
high-level creative team behind the project
The film is
directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for his work in ON-GAKU:
Our Sound, and is produced by Rock 'n' Roll Mountain.
Production is carried out by Pony Canyon, TBS TV and ASMIK
Ace, while the script has been written by Yasuyuki Mutō (Tokyo
Revengers).
Keisuke
Kojima acts as
a character designer and chief animation director, and Keikankun
Yamaguchi is in charge of artistic direction. Original music is on
account of Hiroaki Tsutsumi. Among the producers stand out Yūsuke
Terada, Yūki Katayama and Akane Taketsugu.
A manga
with a competitive and human spirit
The
manga Hyakuemu marked Uoto's debut as mangaka, being released
in November 2018 through the app Magazine Pocket from
Kodansha. The work concluded with three compilation volumes, the last one
published in August 2019. Uoto is also known for his
series Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, consolidating
itself as an original voice within the Japanese contemporary manga.
With a
history of sports rivalry charged with emotions, detailed
animation and a cast of top-notch voices, Hyakuemu It is
emerging as one of the most intense film proposals of the year in the sports
genre.
