After a
long wait, the manga Miraculous: The Adventures of Ladybug, based
on the popular FrenchKorean animated series, has resumed publication. Chapter
40 was released on June18 through Kodansha's Palcy app,
marking the return of the work after two years of inactivity.
This new
chapter comes after the appearance of chapter 39, included as chapter 14 in the
manga's third compilation volume, published in June 2023. The
reason for the mismatch in numbering is because each chapter in Palcy is
published divided into several parts.
A story
of secret identities and crossed loves
The manga
adaptation, developed by Koma Warita and Riku Tsuchida,
began serialization in Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in
January 2021. Subsequently, it moved to the Palcy app in 2023.
The story
follows Marinette, an ordinary teenager who hides a big secret: she
can transform into the heroine Ladybug. Together with his
partner Cat Noir, he protects the streets of Paris. However,
neither knows that behind the other hides their classmate. To complicate
matters, Marinette is in love with Adrien, but Cat Noir is
in love with Ladybug, creating a tangle of identities and feelings that
enchant readers.
A global
phenomenon since its premiere in 2015
The 3D
animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir debuted
in South Korea in September 2015, and shortly after in the United
States via Nickelodeon in December of the same year. Since then, it has
been a runaway success, premiering multiple seasons on platforms such as Netflix and Disney+.
The second
season arrived in France in December 2016; the third in
April 2019; the fourth in April 2021; and the fifth
season debuted in October 2022. The sixth season began
airing in the United States on January 25, 2025. In addition,
the company Shout! Factory has released home video versions.
An
international production that continues to grow
The series
is a co-production between ZAG Entertainment, Method
Animation, Toei Animation and SamG, with the
collaboration of TF1, Disney Channel EMEA, SK
Broadband and AB Droits Audiovisuels.
Before
launching as a 3D animated series, the project featured a promotional video
in 2D animation, also co-produced by ZAG and Toei Animation. A 2D
OVA was subsequently made that kept the Cat Noir design of the
current 3D series.
As part of
its global expansion strategy, ZAG Entertainment announced the
opening of a new studio in Japan this July, reinforcing its
commitment to the Asian market and its ambition to produce original content
with an international reach.
