renowned author Mitsuru Hattori will get its own anime adaptation, scheduled
for release in 2026.
The series
will star voice actress Sayumi Suzushiro as Wakana Kinme, a young woman who
runs a laundry in a quiet coastal town.
An
Experienced Creative Team
The anime
will be directed by Kenta Ōnishi, known for his work on The Hidden Dungeon Only
I Can Enter, and will feature script and series composition by Tōko Machida,
writer of The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World. The
character designs will be by Azuma Tozawa, who previously appeared on Even
Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class and I'm Actually the Strongest.
A story to
reconnect with tranquility
Originally
launched in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in July 2017, the manga
concluded in June 2023 with a total of 10 compiled volumes. Despite having
concluded, a new bonus story will be published on Friday, June 7, adding to an
epilogue already released six months after the series' conclusion.
The story
follows the life of Wakana Kinme, a young woman with no memory of her past who
runs a laundry in the coastal city of Atami. Through the objects she cleans,
Wakana cherishes the memories of her customers, turning each item into an
emotional bridge to their personal histories. The story blends slice-of-life
with a contemplative atmosphere, ideal for those seeking serenity amidst modern
chaos.
The Legacy
of Mitsuru Hattori
Mitsuru
Hattori is internationally known for works such as Sankarea, a zombie comedy
manga published between 2009 and 2014, which inspired an anime adaptation in
2012. He is also the author of Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho, which had its own
animated series.
In addition
to his original projects, Hattori has collaborated on adaptations such as
novelist Nisi Oisin's Imperfect Shojo, and is currently working on the manga
Kaiju-iro no Shima (Monster-Colored Island), which is still in publication.
The
adaptation of Wash it All Away promises to bring to the screen a simple yet
profound story, full of emotion, visual beauty, and endearing characters,
further consolidating Hattori's influence in the world of manga and anime.
